THE PLATFORM

Law understood in context.

The Future of South African Law examines litigation, compliance, constitutionalism, legal education and African jurisprudence. Each episode translates legal complexity into clear ideas without sacrificing intellectual depth. The purpose is not merely to describe what the law says, but to examine how it operates, whose interests it serves and how it may develop.

INTELLECTUAL FOUNDATION

Law. Power.
African thought.

This platform approaches South African law as more than a collection of rules. It asks whose history shaped those rules, whose interests they serve and how African jurisprudence can contribute to a more legitimate legal order.

Pan-Africanism is the intellectual lens through which questions of law, power, dignity and institutional legitimacy are examined. This worldview is informed by thinkers including Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe, Steve Biko, Dikgang Moseneke and Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi.

Sobukwe at Fort Hare

21 October 1949 · Address to the graduating class

“Education to us means service to Africa.”

In this address, Mangaliso Robert Sobukwe called on graduates to put their education at the service of African communities. He argued for African intellectual leadership, freedom and a shared responsibility to contribute to humanity.

For this platform, that call connects legal education to public service: understanding the law should equip us to reason independently, question institutions and contribute to the communities they serve.
